Palm Sunday

Hosanna!

Blessed is the one who comes in the name of our God!

I dig Palm Sunday. Why? Maybe because it's a slight reprieve from the sobriety of Lent (and in anticipation of the seriously somber triduum) where we get to shout in celebration about the coming of our Lord! Or maybe it's because palm trees are part of my cultural context and so I identify with them much better than the evergreens of Advent. Either way, Palm Sunday is a good day.

Be sure to celebrate a little, today. It's the Sunday of the passion, yes, but don't get ahead of yourself. Shout HOSANNA for a little while. He saves, you know. That's what that means. Remember that he saves.

A blessing.

This is a vision of the way it can be, the way it should be: shouts of welcome, a joyful procession, a community celebrating together.

The same vision is offered to us today: we can welcome Christ into our lives; we can celebrate God's transformational power.

How swiftly things changed back then; how swiftly we, too, can be distracted.

May we hold fast to this vision of goodness: peace from the practice of justice, equality from the practice of respect.

As this week unfolds, we will let ourselves be overtaken by God's love. We will pour it back out into the world.

The blessed, holy Trinity keep you in grace, lead you in light, and +give you peace.

Amen.
