What a difference a year makes.

It's hard to believe that precisely a year after Barack Obama was inaugurated, the bluer-than-blue state of Massachusetts voted to fill Ted Kennedy's senate seat with Republican Scott Brown.

I really don't know what to say.

This changes everything. This puts the senate at 59-41 -- we have lost our filibuster-proof majority. Scott Brown has made the awful statement that he will absolutely vote against health care reform.

I wasn't very concerned about this senate race, because I had faith. I had faith that the state of Massachusetts would not follow Teddy's brilliant 50-year career with something so opposite of everything he stood for.

I think I need to take a day to choke this down before I write about it.
