Don't read this if you haven't seen the finale of HIMYM!

I just caught up on How I Met Your Mother, which ended last week but we were at a ballgame and then I had to keep myself from watching it because it was finals blah blah blah. So I just watched.

The first half was so great--Lily and Marshall's baby was born! Welcome to the imaginary television universe, Marvin Wait-For-It Eriksen! So good.

At the end (of the first half) they played Cloud Cult's "You Were Born"...which is what I sang to babies  while I worked as the chaplain on the Labor & Delivery floor this summer. I burst into tears. I had to wait about ten minutes before I could start the second half. First world sigh.

And then Barney did ridiculous magic in the airport. So weird. And proposed to Quin! Which I hoped was fake. And then it was! And I can't believe Ted and Victoria rode off into the sunset! Not pleased...because we all know that she isn't the mom because she isn't the roommate of the grad student blah blah blah.

And then OF COURSE it was Robin and Barney getting married at the end because that is all I have ever wanted in the HIMYM world! I have been a Robin + Barney from day one. I was never even a Ted + Robin fan, frankly.

I jumped up and down and squealed when the episode ended. Like you do, when you're an adult and great things are happening on television.

This concludes my total triviality for the day!

Mad Men

So, I've started watching Mad Men. I know, I'm very aware that I am always like years late to every party. It usually happens when I have a major paper to write. I see what Netflix Instant has to offer me.

My dear friend Dylan loves this show very much -- we've been known to call him Don Draper on occasion. It's funny, because watching Don Draper, I see little pieces of Dylan's mannerisms, etc. I've been known to say that Dylan is my sexiest friend, so, there we are.

After just one episode, I wanted to dress like Betty (or maybe Joan) and have a cigarette and a scotch with a man in a three-piece suit and skinny tie. Mmm, girl.

But then they drive drunk! And they're racist! And SO sexist, and so heteronormative, and I couldn't last a minute at Sterling Cooper or in any of their houses.

But they're just so glamorous...

...And that's the end of my frivolity for the evening. Back to writing a paper about politics and religion in the 60s. Hey, watching this show all afternoon has been research, right? :)

October

What a great weekend for Wisconsin sports! Our Brewers, Badgers, and Packers all had wins this weekend -- the Brew Crew even had two! October is a great month because it includes college football, professional football, and the most important part -- postseason baseball.

My Padres are nowhere near the postseason, and neither of the Bay Area teams are either, so I went to my last ballgame last Tuesday. But my TV will be parked at ESPN for the rest of the month, bathed in the excitement of October.

My dad was in Wisconsin this past week, so he watched all three of his teams pile-drive their opponents in real life! Such joy.

If the World Series lasts more than four games (as one always hopes it does), I'll get to watch those final games at home with my dad! This will be the perfect ending to a baseball season.

I don't really have much more to say.

I just love October.
