Yesterday, I stood outside in sub-40-degree temperatures (LOL) for 5ish hours with 16,000ish of my closest friends to hear President Obama speak for sub-30-minutes. It was worth every frozen toe in the park.
There were like 7 "rows" of people between me and the rope line. The guy next to me ended up high-fiving the President after the speech. It was one the coolest experiences of this campaign, for sure.
When I went to bed last night, I continued my series viewing of The West Wing with the 6th season finale, in which Matthew Santos receives the Democratic Party's nomination for President. A great day for real-life democracy, and what I wouldn't mind being real-life democracy. :)
Some days, it's hard to feel fired up and ready to go. The polls are absolutely bonkers. But other days, like yesterday and of course continuing into today, I am confident. I know what grassroots organizing has done for us in the past, and I know what it can do for us as we hurtle towards next Tuesday's election. Voting has begun, swing states are swinging, and I can't focus on anything else.
In the car on the way home yesterday, after a period of quiet as we sat in rainy traffic, Allisun said, "We're gonna win." I feel it, too.
If you live in a state with early voting and you've yet to vote, go do it. What are you waiting for?
If you've got an absentee ballot, fill it out and get it in the mail. What are you waiting for?
If your only option is to hit a polling place on November 6th, please make it your number one priority.
This is how close we were. |
Here he is, zoomed and instagrammed. What a day. |
